Sentence Structures of Suggestion

Secara umum dalam bahasa Inggris, kita menggunakan beberapa ketentuan dan pola untuk memberikan suggestions, seperti should, ought to, why not, why don’t, how about, what about, let’s, dan could.
Mari kita lihat struktur kalimat untuk memberikan suggestions di bawah ini!


  • SHOULD

    • Positive form

    Subject + should + verb 1 + obj. + adv.*

    Examples:

    1. You should buy this car.
    2. You should come to my house everyday.

    *Use adverb if it is necessary.

    Negative form

    Subject + should not (shouldn’t) + v 1 + obj. + adv.

    Examples:

    1. You should not buy this car.
    2. You shouldn’t come to my house everyday.

    Interrogative form

    Should + subject + verb 1 ?

    Examples:

    1. Should she come to the party?
      • (+) Yes, she should.
      • (-) No, she shouldn’t.
    2. Should I buy this car?
      • (+) Yes, she should.
      • (-) No, she shouldn’t.

  • OUGHT TO

    • Positive form

    Subject + ought to + verb 1 + obj. + adv.*

    Examples:

    1. You ought to have a picnic.
    2. He ought to give her explanation.

    Negative form

    Subject + should not (shouldn’t) + v 1 + obj. + adv.

    Examples:

    1. You ought not to have a picnic.
    2. He ought not to give her explanation.

    Note: There is no interrogative form of “ought to”

  • WHY NOT…?

    • Why not + verb 1 + object ?

    Examples:

    1. Why not take a sleep?
    2. Why not drink a glass of juice?

  • WHY DON’T…?

    • Why don’t + S + verb 1 + object ?

    Examples:

    1. Why don’t we read a book?
    2. Why don’t you take an English course?

  • HOW ABOUT…?

    • How about + verb ing + object ?

    Examples:

    1. How about fishing?
    2. How about making some dounuts?

  • WHAT ABOUT

    • What about + verb ing + object ?

    Examples:

    1. What about fishing?
    2. What about making some dounuts?

    Note: “How about” and “what about” is considerred have the same meaning.

  • LET’S

    • Let’s + verb + object

    Examples:

    1. Let’s take a rest.
    2. Let’s have a lunch.

  • COULD

    • subject + could + verb 1 + object

    Examples:

    1. We could go to Bromo.
    2. You could give them some food.
